Stimulizin'

As Ric Flair once may have said, this past weekend I was stylin', profilin', and stimulizin'. My economic stimulation package came via electronic one's and zero's into my checking account Friday. What better way to spend it, than invest it for the future. LOL, did I just say that?

What I meant was, "Welcome home, my new Samsung 52" LCD. Welcome home."

Granted, I have no 1080p source to feed its pixels, but eventually I will.

So here's a question for you gamer-types, a group in which I used to firmly reside in my LAN party days:

Why on earth would you buy a Blue-Ray DVD player when they cost $399? Because you can buy a Playstation 3 for the same price. And it has a built-in Blue-Ray DVD player. Seems kind of odd to do otherwise.

Now if a PS3 makes the right sense to you, what games should come with it?

And, one final question: Assuming I make such a purchase, how do you tell your video game prodigy son that he can't play it when Daddy's not home?

GTA 4. The kids will love it :)

In all seriousness, if you're a baseball fan, MLB: The Show is awesome.

I second GTA 4. If you like football games, Madden is a must. I've also heard great things about MLB: The Show. Heavenly Sword is short, but very good. If you can get it, I'd also look into Burnout: Paradise if you like car games.

If you want a game for your kid, check out the latest Ratchet & Clank game. Although, you probably should make sure it's an "E" rated title instead of a "T" rated title, just in case.

I have always loved GTA series. It's a great value for what you pay for it, especially if you're an anal little shit like me who does every little tiny single thing in the game. San Andreas took me six months to finish.

Guitar Hero III, of course.

The only problem is an X-Box is pretty awesome because of Halo 3 and you can get GtA as well. Though I don't know if the DVD player is in there.

I'd recommend Rock Band.

GTA IV's good but not safe to play around kids.

Call of Duty 4 and Resistance: Fall of Man if you like shooters.

Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction if you like old-school platformer type games.

And finally, Burnout Paradise if you like driving fast and big crashes.

I don't envy you for the upcoming conversation with video game prodigy son, that's for sure!

But re: PS3 games: GTA4 & Call of Duty 4/Modern Warfare are incredibly enertaining adult games that no PS3 owner should be without. But NOT appropriate for any youth!

There's a lot of sports game options: Madden, baseball, Tiger Woods, Pro Wrestling, etc... (And MLB2K8 is head & shoulders better than MLB08/The Show. The rest of the commenters are apparently unaware.)

I would think you would need to buy a game or two for you... AND a different one or two for the little one. Otherwise, it just a tantrum waiting to happen. Have him pick one out for his self, while explaining that your games are off limits.

Gawd, am I really this big of a dork to have gamer advice?! Geez...

What's an old man like you going to do with video games???

Let mini-blood run rampant and pick any game he wants!

'Cause Kid's rule !!!!!!

Not a gamer myself, BUT !!!!
I've seen the Madden football in action. It seems to be a huge hit around these parts and I can tell you, the graphics and features had my full attention.

Good luck with the convo. You'll need it.

;o)

Resistance: Fall of Man
Call of Duty:Modern Warfare
GTA4

Skip Guitar Hero for the PS3, it is a really shitty port and hardly ever works. The wireless connectivity sucks and makes the game unplayable. I had to return it and get the Wii version instead.

Madden also sucks on PS3 as compared to XBox version. Again, a shitty port.

Mostly I use my PS3 as a bluray player, and that alone is worth the price.

Difference between PS3 and Blu-Ray standalone unit is that there is a higher range of signal processing both audio and video in a standalone unit. While this will not give a higher resolution, it will add a greater colour depth and additional high and low frequencies in sound.

You would only notice these in certain scenes of few movies but all you asked for was the difference ;)

As you've spent all the bucks...you need a satellite dish.
I have Dishnetwork and love it.
I have a 50" plasma... no blue-ray player as yet. Probably a future purchase ... maybe when I get my Bush Money...

Check up on it, but I believe there's parental controls on the PS3 (as there is no reason to not buy if you want Blu-Ray).

this one is easy Madden08 or wait for 09.

there is no way u should buy a stand alone blue ray player the PS3's have better lasers too boot.

I bought the 46inch Samsung and you are going to love it.

I did the same thing, it makes way more sense to buy the PS3.

As for games COD4 and GTA are great recomendations.

There is nothing you can do to stop your kid from playing unless you take the power cord with you.

A friend of mine had the same line of thought and bought the PS3 just for the BlueRay player and uses his XBox 360 for his gaming.
